Health Care Reform - The No BS Version
Like the unknown soldier (left) wearing an unusual
hearing aid while listening to politicians speaking to a gathering of
Veterans of Foreign Wars, we too do our best to separate the wheat
from the chaff.
Today we're looking at how the health care reform bill that has just been passed in America will affect your survival. Even if it might be good for some people, the health care reform bill - over 2000 pages of it - looks more like a band aid for the US economy than anything else. And it has certainly resulted in some polarized opinions. Says one person in favor: "I’m glad this health care bill passed. As a small business owner, over 50, with a 'pre-existing condition', the vultures who run the private, for-profit insurance companies won’t touch someone like me." An opposite point of view, by a correspondent for the UK Telegraph: "The passage last night of Barack Obama’s health care reform bill through the House of Representatives is yet another blow to freedom in America inflicted by the Obama administration. "The legislation, which comes at a staggering cost of 940 B, will hugely add to the already towering national debt, now at over 12 T. It is yet another millstone round the necks of the American people, already faced with the highest levels of unemployment in a generation." Another: "There would be nothing wrong with private health insurance provided it performed when needed most, but it doesn’t. The insurance companies are like the banks, they lend you an umbrella when the sun is shining and take it back when it starts raining." Further:- "Did you know that Obamacare will require that you have insurance, and that the IRS will be in charge of auditing you every month as to whether you have insurance or not? If you don't have insurance, a 2,500 a year penalty will be deducted from your income tax return. And that the IRS could place a tax lien on your property." Mike Adams, Editor of Natural News, calls it "Health care dictatorship: A crime against America." He says "This is the medical equivalent of a wartime draft that forces soldiers into battle against their will. Except this isn't a war against some foreign enemy -- it's a war being waged against your body by the pharmaceutical industry, the cancer industry, the surgery pushers and all the corporations that prey upon the public for their sick-care profits." Also opposed: "If this bill goes into effect - the government will have taken control over 48% of our economy in just one year. Auto makers, banks, corporations, schools, the media, and the healthcare industry. Did you know that the healthcare industry constitutes 30% of our economy? Next on Obama's agenda is taking over the energy industry, thus increasing government control to the tune of 56%. "
"The die is cast: Once-great American private insurance companies are to take their place as massive public utilities -- a new political football for generations of future Congresses to tinker with, manipulate, and exploit. Heaven help us all." Bellinger is predicting that Americans will now take overseas trips to get their health care work done elsewhere. And The Heritage Foundation reacted with "Instead of empowering families and individuals to make their own choices, Obamacare empowers the bureaucracy to make those decisions for them. It is this unelected bureaucracy, unanswerable to the electorate, that will determine the content of health benefits packages, including medical treatment and procedures, and how much will be paid for those services. "Much of the fight against this bill will be led by the individual states, a process we encourage. All told, 33 states have already taken steps to challenge various aspects of Obamacare, including its unprecedented mandate that every American purchase health insurance or face a steep penalty for noncompliance. Four additional States will have this question on the ballot in November."
Reuters
reports that "Florida's attorney general will file a lawsuit
with nine other state attorneys general opposing the healthcare
legislation..."The health care reform legislation...clearly
violates the U.S. Constitution and infringes on each state's
sovereignty," Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, a
Republican, said in a prepared statement.
"On behalf of the State of Florida and of the Attorneys
General from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Pennsylvania,
Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota and Alabama if the President
signs this bill into law, we will file a lawsuit to protect the rights
and the interests of American citizens."
Remember, there are over 2000 pages in this bill, and it's unlikely
that those who voted for it read it right through.
It's also clear that there has been a lot of cherry picking by both
sides as they fight to support their arguments for and against. So
what chance is there that people who blog and comment on it are
totally informed? Very little. In fact, they too are polarized in
their viewpoints.
One says: "I believe overall that the Healthcare Bill is very bad - bad, because the government will now tell us where, how much, when, etc., to get health care. And, according to independent reports, it does not bode well for seniors." And another says: ""the greatest day in the history of the USA..................a government that realizes that its people come first and not the profits of some rich CEO of a health care company..............."
But there's more to come in this debate, because it all has to go back
to the Senate, where Republicans say they will use any and all
legislative tactics in order to slow - even stop - the reconciliation
bill from passing.
Now let's see what this has to do with your survival and
preparations for the future.
What's being lost in this heated debate is the understanding that -
despite the mainstream pundits' point of view that everything in the
economy is rosy - this bill and all its associated rhetoric is just
another way of distracting us from the fact that the US economy is on
the brink of collapse.
Unemployment continues to rise, businesses continue to go bankrupt,
manufacturing capacity is falling, and the next big steam roller
coming our way is going to hit the commercial real estate market very
soon. That in turn will put millions of construction workers on the
streets - along with their families.
So how will insurance companies - including the health insurance
companies - make any money to cover anyone's medical bills, if their
investments in real estate etc are no longer worth the (digital) paper
they're written on?
What we're pointing out, as a timely reminder, is that health care, in whatever form, is not divorced from the true state of the US - and world - economy. Consider this headline: Many of “Soros Traders” Are Trying to Break the Bank of England Once Again." That's Sean Hyman writing an article for "FX University" in which he says "As you may know, the now legendary trader George Soros made a name for himself with a single currency trade back in 1992.
"At the time, Soros saw that the U.K. was facing major fiscal
problems, so he orchestrated one of the largest short sales in
currency-trading history when he sold off the British pound.
"He was dead-on. The pound sank, and he made over 1 billion off
the pound’s misfortune. Ever since then, Soros has been known as the
“man who broke the Bank of England.”
Hyman goes on to say the pound is sinking yet again.
We say that if it can happen in the UK, which is very
much over its eyeballs in debt, it is inevitable that it will also
happen here in the US.
And this will surprise you. We recommend that you do NOT buy gold and
silver UNLESS you have already covered all your bases so you'll be
prepared when the economy finally does go tits up later this year.
We sincerely hope that by then you will be in very good
health, not only physically, but also in terms of preparedness and
survival.
