Mississippi
Burning
Donna
and I were in Mississippi with
Jason Storms and The School of
Evangelism to help Personhood
Mississippi get out the pro-life
vote.

We
distributed literature at
"The Battle of the
Bands" in Jackson,
Mississippi which drew a crowd of
approximately 40,000 people. As we
handed out Proposition 26 stickers
and info we asked "Are you
voting this Tuesday?"
followed up with "Are you
voting for Proposition 26?"
It was an opportunity to swing a
few more votes our way. After
seeing overwhelming support in
March we were surprised at the
negative responses we received.

We
were not alone at this event. The
opposition was present in less but
in threatening numbers. No doubt
their lies and innuendo confused
many voters. Some people we talked
to believed Prop 26 outlaws birth
control, treatment of ectopic
pregnancies, and in-vitro
fertilization.
Prop
26 merely declares a scientific
fact: Life begins at
fertilization. Denial of this
fact has cost the lives of tens of
millions of Americans and hundreds
of millions of others around the
world.
Lack
of support and outright opposition
from National Right to Life and
Bishop Joseph Latino further
doomed this initiative by letter
to his diocese “the push for a
state amendment could ultimately
harm our efforts to overturn Roe
vs. Wade.”
But
how could the recognition of life
beginning at fertilization be of
any disadvantage to recognizing
his humanity at any other time
during gestation? Obviously the
compromise is to avoid arguments
about birth control and
abortifacients such as RU486 and
the Morning After Pill. But such
an ungodly compromise is doomed to
fail. We do not have authority to
alter God’s command “Thou
shall not murder.” We cannot
expect God’s help or blessing on
our work by compromising on His
word.
Jesus
said “Get thee behind me
you Satan!” to Peter
when he rejected the Cross and
Calvary for a more winsome method
of appealing to the culture at
large. Matthew 16:23 Birth control
was available prior to 1973 while
the humanity of the pre-born was
recognized. Some forms of birth
control are abortifacient and
should be outlawed.
Prior
to the election we went
door-to-door asking people if they
intended to vote Tuesday “Are
you voting for Proposition 26?”
Everyone heard about Proposition
26, but many were confused to its
meaning and implications. Many
seemingly caring pro-life
Christians chose to protect their
method of birth control rather
than the lives of the babies. By
virtue of their vote, they opted
to tear the arms and legs off of
helpless unborn children becoming
abortionists themselves.
Hudson
Nyhart speaks with a Jackson,
Mississippi resident about
Proposition 26. Hudson is one of
25 students from the Faithful
Soldier School of Evangelism in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin who came to
help get out the vote.
Eric
Murphy (below) is holding a Vote
Yes 26 sign near one of
Mississippi’s many voting
places. We set up “sign waves”
at polls and at busy intersections
up to the time that the polls
closed.
After
the polls closed we went to a
Proposition 26 post election party
to hear the results of the
election. The media was there to
record our astonishment and
disappointment. The election
results revealed the hearts and
minds of those around us. Many
ardent pro-lifers discovered
pro-abortion proclivities of
family and friends, pastors and
churchmen, and neighbors. Imagine
if you will a son or a daughter
you raised choosing selfish or
stupid reasons for their vote to
murder helpless innocent children,
rejecting the core godly value you
taught them and fight so hard to
defend. We can never look at
these people in the same way
again.
“A
man's enemies will be the members
of his own household.”
Matthew
10:36
We
do not have the luxury or
authority to alter the message.
God commands “Thou shall not
kill!” Those who allow for
exceptions for rape, incest, fetal
deformity, or life of the mother;
those who add or subtract to
God’s word are false prophets.
We cannot expect God’s help or
blessing by compromising God’s
word.

minister on campus.

Mississippi
had the opportunity to lead the
nation away from child sacrifice.
58% voted against legal
recognition of the pre-born child.
On our way home we were passed by
a Stericycle truck pulling two
trailers of “medical waste.”
Stericycle disposes the remains at
abortion clinics around the
country. We followed the semi to
Canton, Mississippi and to a
landfill with a high fence and a
guard shack. Many Stericyle
vehicles and trailers were parked
on the property. We stopped to
take pictures and were met with
police who wanted to know what we
were about. I looked them in the
eye and said “ We are taking
pictures.” The cop said “Of a
landfill?” I smiled and nodded
yes. The cop seemed somewhat
troubled as we left as he talked
into his microphone to the
dispatcher.

Outside
of Jerusalem’s old walls is the
Valley of Hinnom. It is where the
people of Judah offered their
children to the fire god Molech
and to Baal (Jeremiah 7:31; 32:35)
– for which, Jeremiah warned
them, they would pay with the
destruction of the Temple and
exile. I believe God wants to
reveal to us the final resting
place of thousands upon thousands
of children murdered by abortion.
The people of Canton, Mississippi
are surely aware of this place.
Canton, Mississippi’s churches,
58% of Mississippi voters are a
party to this crime.
