Concerning “Two Nuns Who Escaped!”

“Power of Prophecy” offers two excellent resources concerning two nuns who escaped the horrors of their cloistered convents.  The “Power of Prophecy” February 1997 newsletter contained the following information concerning the testimonies of two courageous ex-nuns:

“What goes on inside the sinister, gray walls of the cloistered convents?  Here are true accounts of the horrors that befall innocent young women who seek to serve God by joining Catholic orders.  You’ll cry when you hear the poignant and gripping testimony of Sister Maria Monk and Sister Charlotte [Ed. Note: Sister Charlotte’s testimony is available on CD or on a two-audiocassette tape set] – two nuns who suffered untold degradations and torture, but who escaped and lived to tell about it.

Sister Maria Monk wrote her revealing book, Maria Monk – The Nun That Lives Again, in the 19th century.  Sister Charlotte gave her testimony in the 1960s, and we now have it on audiotape [or CD].  Their combined testimony points conclusively to the frightening reality behind the pious face of the Roman Catholic hierarchy.

Maria Monk – The Nun That Lives Again is a book that genuinely stunned America when it was first released.”  Protestant Pastor Theo C. Walker, quoted on the back cover, writes: ‘What crimes and criminals are hidden behind the walls and locked doors of the convents no one can tellI believe that no such institution ought to exist on American soilwhere girls are lost and forever disappearthat sucks in its victims with remorseless fatality’.”

This editor has the above referenced resources.  Both tell the sad stories of the horrors that sometimes occur behind the walls and locked doors of certain convents.  Both of these ex-nuns courageously and publicly told their stories at great risk to their lives.  Be prepared to cry when you read of the horrible things that were done to these nuns, and to their fellow “sisters” in their convents.  They suffered not only at the hands of cruel “mother superiors”, but also at the lecherous hands of priests who came to the convents to take advantage of women whom they regarded as little more than sex slaves.  Even murder took place in these convents.  Most often it was the murder of the little babies born to the nuns; however, sometimes nuns who got out of line were also murdered – or over time succumbed to the cruel punishments inflicted upon them!

Here is a quote by Maria Monk: “Some of the priests from the Seminary were in the Nunnery [i.e., convent] day and nightI believe every one of them was guilty of licentiousness [i.e., unrestrained sexual immorality], while not one did I ever see who maintained a character any way becoming the profession of a priest.  Few imaginations can conceive deeds so abominable as they practiced, and often required of the poor women [in the convent], under fear of severe punishment Testimonies from other Catholic nuns who have escaped other cloistered convents confirm the stories of Sister Maria Monk and Sister Charlotte.

Both the 175-page book Maria Monk and CD or 2-audiocassette tape set entitled “Sister Charlotte” can be obtained from “Power of Prophecy” for a total of $16 postpaid by calling their toll-free line at 1-800-234-9673.  Or, make check or money order payable to “Power of Prophecy” and mail it to: Power of Prophecy // 1708 Patterson Road // Austin, TX 78733-6507.
